LIIAR Analysis of Front Page and How I Achieved It

When creating my magazine front cover and mock up of a contents page I had to keep in mind and encounter the production details and how I would go about producing the magazine and any problems that may have come up. Firstly, I would use Photoshop to process and produce my project, ensuring that I used all sorts of different resources within Photoshop, which would finalise my piece having successful outcome. I was originally going to make the subject of my magazine Dance but then I made the decision of making the subject Art and Design based instead.
The sort of language within my front cover and contents page are rather formal but not completely formal, due to my audience being 16-18 year olds, I didn't want the language being either too formal or too informal. Therefore I used persuasive language to interact with my reader and draw them into the magazine. By using phrases such as "Read inside for more" I am drawing attention to stories, meaning people will purchase the magazine and therefore read inside for more of what they want to know, meaning these words will appeal to my particular audience as they are interested.
Due to my particular audience being teenagers at college who study art based subjects, mainly textiles, I had to make my magazine college based, and I also had to include certain topics which would appeal to that audience. By doing this I am guaranteed readers which is obviously essential when creating a magazine.
This also affected the way I presented my work. I had to use certain colours and type styles that would appeal both to girls and boys but would appeal mostly to girls. Therefore I stuck with mainly lilac and grey colours so that there was no contrast between the two and that they suited for both girls and boys. The reason I wanted to direct my magazine to girls mainly is because its mostly girls who study art based subjects such as textiles, therefore I wouldn't make the main colour blue as it would not appeal to the main people who do study the subject.
As a result of the audiences's ideology, I had to overall process a front cover and contents page of a magazine which would be useful and would be suitable for that audience. It has to live up to their expectations or it will not be successful, this applies to any type of magazine. If it's unsuccessful then it's a waste of time and effort.

Photographs Taken

It took a while to get the right image for my magazine cover because I had to get the right lighting and the background and model couldn't be too light or too dark. Therefore, I took several photographs and picked the best one. The best one had sun shining through the model's hair making her look bright and more exciting. The sun also caused a shadow of the model on the wall next to her which making it look more textural because there wasn't just one colour in the image, it goes from light to dark which is a lot more exciting than just one colour. I also had to make sure that the model was looking into the camera because that involves the audience as it looks like she is looking at you. I got one photo where the model was looking away and that gave the wrong idea and so I did not use that image.

Digital Mock up of Front Cover

When creating my magazine I had to create a mock up of what it would look like so that i had a sample to go by.

Magazine Name & Type Style

For my magazine I will obviously need a magazine name and a type style to match that and the theme. The theme for my magazine is college and fashion within the college and I have some up with some name ideas:

  • Wyke Fashion
  • Fashion at Wyke
  • Sixth Form Fashion
  • Wyke Fashionistas
These names are very basic but that's ideal because if I have a complicated name it wont stick in peoples heads and they wont feel encouraged to read it, therefore there would be no point in making the magazine. I have come up with 5 ideas altogether but I am not sure which one I will use yet because I would prefer to have other peoples opinions on it so that it becomes ideal for my particular audience.

The type style that I would like to use is very difficult to find out, but I have chosen three although I cannot decide which one I prefer, but again I will ask for peoples opinions to determine the best one for my magazine.
